How to (garden creatures) Breed Canaries and Dealing with the Laying of Eggs

 If at the time of laying eggs the female canary stays bristled up and immovable, this could mean that it has difficulties in laying eggs. The mature egg, ready to be laid, cannot pass through the cloaca - the reasons can be different. The normally formed egg cannot be laid by the female only when it is ill or weak. In extraordinary situations very often it happens so that the egg has no shell and only an egg with a shell can press the muscles of the oviduct - a soft egg without a shell can do this. The shell does not form only when the organism of the female bird does not have enough calcium. Excessively young females very often have difficulties in laying eggs.

IMPORTANT! If you do not have enough experience, take the bird to a vet. Only a very experienced selectionist can afford to try different types of help.

Suggestions for advanced ones:

- Turn on the infra red light.

- With a pipette drip a drop into the cloaca. It very often helps and after half an hour the egg gets out.

- Very easy and carefully massage the area around the cloaca.The egg without a shell cracks and practically drips out. Controversially - the normally formed egg should not crack as pieces of the shell can cause internal traumas.

How to prevent nesting?

Generally female canaries are ready to nest from spring till the beginning of summer which makes it possible to nest once -twice a year, the same as the free living canaries. The delicate domestic canaries could ” fall out ” of this rhythm and to be ready to nest for excessively long time. More than 2 nestings a year are very exhausting for the female bird. In such cases you should interfere and prevent them. This, of course, can be done after the first nesting in case that you don’t want other small ones.

One of the possibilities is not to give the female bird any opportunity to make a nest, this means to take out all materials necessary to make a nest. Sometimes this reduces its desire to build a nest. However, many female birds go on by plucking feathers from themselves or from the male canary. In such cases you have no other chance than allowing the bird to build the nest and to lay eggs. Then replace every egg laid with an artificial one. The female bird can incubate these eggs as long as it wishes. Finally remove the nest - you should not trouble that the female bird will suffer from psychiatrical shock and will be sad. Such cases in wild nature can be seen very often. Laying eggs is not a guaranty to bring up a progeny, they could not be inseminated.

What you should not do? To give medication which prevent nesting.First of all they are not very efficient and second they are harmful very often.

Dogs and Those with Hypoallergenic Fur

 Are you a dog lover? Do you live in an apartment or small home? Do you have allergies? A small dog with hypoallergenic fur might be the answer for you. “Hypo” is a Greek suffix meaning less or below. A hypoallergenic dog might still put out allergens, but at a much lower level. A few dogs that take up less space, making them better for apartment living, are the Silky Terrier, the Havanese, and the Coton de Tulear. These dogs are all considered of the “Toy” size by the America Kennel Club.

The Silky Terrier was developed through a cross of a Yorkshire Terrier and an Australian Terrier in the late 19th century. Even with these early dates, it was not fully recognized as a breed of its own until 1955 as the Australian Silky Terrier. These dogs have terrier qualities such as enjoying activity and a very sharp alertness. Their hair is long, but the Silky Terriers do not shed. This long hair also is partially where their name is derived from. It has very soft and smooth qualities. The dog does require more than average care for this silky coat to stay in good condition. The terriers can get along with other dogs and children, but will get aggressive when provoked or teased. Proper education should be given to as well as the people around the animal as well as the dogs themselves in how to act around one another.

The Havanese were originally developed by the Spanish from a now extinct breed called the Bichon Tenerife, making them part of the Bichon family of dogs. Grooming isn’t a worry with this breed, even with Havanese that are shown in competition. They are meant to look playful and friendly, much like their temperament. These dogs are great around children, other dogs, and people in general without becoming overly possessive. Their sturdy frame makes them that much better around curious children, unlike most fragile “Toy” sized dogs. Although they love playing and winning, they can be easily calmed when spoken to sternly by their owners. One of the major downsides to owning a Havanese is that they seem to suffer from many ailments such as cataracts and hip dysplasia. These are actually uncommon, unless the dog is adopted from a less than reputable breeder.

A Coton de Tulear is another dog with Spanish roots from the Bichon family. Its actual home is Madagascar, where it is the official dog of the country. This intelligent breed is extremely playful, and when pure bred, is white in color. This white coat, while hypoallergenic, does shed more than that of their Havanese cousin, so it requires brushing once every week or two. The Coton de Tulears love people and enjoy playing with them, going on daily walks, and can even keep up on longer hikes. They get easily attached to their owners and suffer from separation anxiety at times. Overall, these dogs are very healthy, living anywhere from fourteen to eighteen years.

Good Medicines for When Your Pet Gets Sick

 Our animal pets, just like us, have the possibility of being sick sometimes. They do deserve the best treatment that they can get through a veterinarian. Just like us, our pets need to be brought to a veterinarian to determine its sickness and prescribe medicines that it needs in order to bring it back to its healthy condition. But what are the different medicines that our pets need in times that they are sick, and are it similar to the ones that we are taking?

Pet medicines are different in those we take. This is because the body composition of animals is very different from us, so the basis of manufacturing pet medicines from our medicines is the body composition of animals and the nature of the bacteria that causes our pet’s sickness. Once we take their medicines and vice versa, there is a possibility of poisoning due to irritation of some vital organs in the body. So it is a general rule that only medicine designed for pets should only be used, no other than that.

There are two general classification of pet medicine: the manufactured pet medicine and the herbal pet medicine.

The manufactured pet medicines includes the following:

1. Live bacteria cultured for pets. This provides essential good bacteria to counteract with the bad bacteria that cause the sickness. It is also fortified with the necessary vitamins to nourish lost body nutrients of our pet. It is available in a syringe package.

2. Different pet tablets according to pet needs. These are chewable tablets that help to remove roundworms and hookworms in the body of our pets. These bacteria are the causes of major irritation on the vital organs of our pets. Depending on the veterinarian’s prescription, usually the affected pet intakes about an average of 2 tablets per 25-pound weight.

3. If your pet is itching because of different animal insects that reside in its furs, there are flea repellent and anti-itch gels that help to eradicate such itching and also to fix some minor skin problems.

4. There are also available antibiotics for our pet depending on the degree of its sickness. These antibiotics can only be taken upon prescription of the attending veterinarian. The reason for this is that if taken without prescription, it can lead to some serious side effects for our pets.

Some of the herbal pet medication are described as follows:

1. The agrimony, a herbal plant native in Europe, is used mainly now as a gastrointestinal tonic to treat pets with digestive problems such diarrhea.

2. The aloe vera, is one of the most cultivated herbal plants in West Indies and other tropical countries. The clear gel within its leaves has excellent healing properties used for our pet’s burns and wounds.

3. The astralagus, a native herbal plant in northern and eastern China. It is used primarily for treating pets with various infections and illnesses in the liver, lungs, digestive tracks, and immune system of our pets because it contains antibiotic, antibacterial and immune-strengthening properties.

4. The bilberry is a perennial shrub that is abundant in Europe, Asia, and North America. It contains rich nutrients that can help to fix our pet’s eye disorder such as cataracts and useful for other pets suffering from arthritis and cramps.

5. The bistort is native to northern Europe, Siberia, Asia, and Japan. It is now used for pets with respiratory ailments and stomach disorders such as dysentery, diarrhea, and vomiting, and also good for pets suffering from parasites.

There are many pet medicines available, but it is important that we follow prescriptions from the veterinarian so that our pets can recover faster from its sickness.
