How Pet Insurance Can Save The Day (outdoor animals)
No commentsBy Nicholas Hunt
Pets are naturally curious about their surroundings. Sometimes this curiosity can get them into big trouble. When we were preparing to move into our first house, we had boxes and moving supplies everywhere. One day we came home and could see that our kitten, Jessie, was not well. She had been vomiting and our normally boisterous kitten was very lethargic.
While cleaning up the vomit, my wife showed me a chewed up ball of packing tape she found in it. Uh oh! It looked like this may be the cause of our kitten’s woes. I knew that eating certain items could bind up a cat’s intestines and treatment may require surgery.
We immediately got in the car and drove her to the nearest 24-hour veterinarian’s office. We explained what we thought had happened, and they took her in the back to do some x-rays. They found a blockage in her intestines, and explained that surgery was the only way to save her life. Our poor kitten! The surgery would cost quite a bit of money - luckily, when we adopted her we had purchased a pet insurance policy that covered just such an emergency.
Jessie had surgery that night - they removed 18 INCHES of tape from her intestines! It was scary to see our tiny kitten go through surgery, but she had a full recovery and is still enriching our family with her purring and antics to this day.
Having just bought our first home, our budget was stretched to the max, and without insurance we would have been forced to go into debt to save Jessie’s life. At least debt was an option for us, many people with unfortunate credit may have had to make a much harder decision.
Pet insurance isn’t just for a curious cat though. Many beloved house pets can get themselves into these situations, or come down with an illness that requires expensive medications to treat. Ongoing illnesses such as diabetes affect our pets as well and it can be very stressful on a family to weigh the monetary burden of such an illness against their beloved pet’s life. Sadly, many pets are euthanized each year due to these illnesses.
Indoor pets, outdoor pets, different types of animals and an animal’s age can all affect what type of insurance policy would be best for them. Most of them are very affordable and provide the peace of mind that our pets can receive the very best care, regardless of the price, when an unforeseen illness or accident occurs.

Training Aids For Your Cat
By Jay Schindler
Should a cat attend obedience classes? Actually, there is no need to. Cats can develop good behavior with the proper training aids.
Cat Training Aids
Food Tray The cat must be taught to eat only in their food trays to avoid begging constantly or having them steal food from the dining table. These must be situated far from the dinner table. It will also help to feed the cat before dinner. They sleep after they eat.
Scratching Posts It is part of the nature of the cat to claw, however this should not be tolerated. It can be very damaging to the furniture. This can be easily resolved by providing scratching posts for cats to claw on instead of the furniture.
Repellent Liquid repellent can also be used to keep cats from scratching on certain furniture. The taste of such repellents is so terrible that the cat will learn to stop from scratching eventually.
Yarns and Balls Cats also need exercise. They are generally playful. Kittens like to play with just anything. To avoid having them tinker with delicate things, it is good to give them yarns or soft balls to play with. Older cats can be trained to use harmless leads.
Treats Cats can be taught tricks. They can be taught to shake hands or fetch something. However, to properly train cats, it is important to give them rewards when they successfully accomplished a task. Treats are good rewards.
Litter Trays One of the drawbacks of keeping a cat indoors is dealing with their dirt. Litter trays will come in handy at this point. This is a must in toilet training an indoor cat.
Water Spray Fighting with other cats and caterwauling are also problematic cat situations. Spraying the cats with water when they do these things will eventually keep them from doing them. The water spray is a helpful deterrent for other bad behaviors.
Cat Grass Plant eating is also a habit of the cats. They do this to induce vomiting and sometimes just out of curiosity. Cat grass is a good substitute to keep your plants safe.
Nesting Spot Cats enjoy going to elevated spots to see more. It is their way of seeking company. To keep them from jumping on furniture, it is best to get a nesting spot. This should elevated and comfortable. Rub a treat into the spot to attract the cat.
Training the cat with these aids will still require patience and consistency. Still, this is worth all the efforts. The good behavior of the cat is reward enough.

Is Your Pet Food Killing Your Pet?
By Aydan Corkern
Why not feed your animals pet food? Well, it has grounded up bones and animal by-products in it. To me and a lot other people, this is not good to give to your pets. It can cause damage to their bodies in the long run and make them die sooner. A few years ago there was a recall on dog and cat food because it was killing them. Some people, like me, did not know about it until it was too late. I had lost my cat due to the cat food that I bought in the stores that was recalled a few days after I bought it. My cat had died. The cat food made his stomach hard and made him bleed out of its internal organs. I say pet food is up in smoke and should not be used.
This is why lots of people do not buy pet food because there can be fungus on the vegetables, bad meat, and chemicals in them. The chemicals can be on the vegetables that they put in the mixture in the pet food. These chemicals are very toxic and can seriously harm or kill your pets. It also does not help them live longer. It can actually make them die faster. Cats and dogs can live well in to their 20’s and that’s their full life. When you feed them pet food, however, they only live to the age of 13 or 15 years old, which deprives them of 5 to 7 years that they should be able to live.
If you want to have your pet live longer then you need to feed them human-grade food because it keeps them alive longer. It makes them healthier and well fit to help them stay strong. Just don’t feed them bread because it can give them heartworms. Don’t give them chocolate because that can kill them. These are not foods that you give your pet at all. You give them actual whole foods that you eat to keep you healthy. Some pets will even eat fruits and vegetables by themselves. It is good for them, and it keeps them looking and feeling younger. They will have much more energy to play, go hunting with you, play with your kids, and much more.
Pets are a part of your family, and you want the best for them and to make them feel better as they get older. Do what is right for them by feeding them human food.
